Important information for Super 8 and Under 10 players

The Super 8 and Under 10 competitions have been changed for the 2017-18 pre-Christmas season.

The Super 8 and Under 10 age groups will now be called Stage 1 to align with the Australian Cricket Pathway.

The MSW Zone will be trialling the new Stage 1 format in the 2017-18 pre-Christmas season.

The new Stage 1 format is for boys and girls aged 7 to 9 years (i.e. players who would have played in what was the Super 8s or Under 10s).

The players will be placed into divisions based on skill level, rather than age, to ensure children are playing against players of similar ability.

The focus is on participation.

Stage 1 involves teams of seven or eight players. The pitch length is 16m and the traditional Under 10 ball is used. All games are 20 overs and last for a maximum of one and a half hours.

Training for Stage 1 players will be Fridays, 4.30pm to 6.00pm, starting on Friday, 25 August 2017.

Important information for Under 15, Under 16 and Under 17

The Under 15, Under 16 and Under 17 MSW competitions have been combined into a single Opens competition, which is graded based on skill level into Open A, Open B and Open C.

The Open A division will play two-day games comprising 50 overs per day, which is designed to prepare players for grade cricket.

The Open B and Open C divisions will play two-day games following the quarter-cricket format, which is designed to maximise participation of players.

Opens players are also eligible to fill in for the Souths Sub-districts team (an adult competition on Saturday afternoons) as part of the club’s pathway program to prepare junior players for adult cricket.
